Count the days: the date a number of days away, and the days between two dates
A letter says 30 days. A form says 10 days before the visit. A notice has a date on it and you want to know how many days are left. This page does two counts on the calendar: the date that is a number of days, weeks, months or weekdays before or after a date, and the days between two dates. It shows the answer, the day of the week, and how it counted, so you can check it on a paper calendar. There is no account and no price.
Good to know
How the page counts
- The starting date is not counted. The day after it is day 1. When the count is in days and goes forward, the page also shows the date you get if the starting date itself is day 1, because some counts are done that way.
- A week is 7 days.
- A month lands on the same day of the month. When that month is too short to have that day, the page uses the last day of the month and says so.
- Weekdays are Monday to Friday. The page skips Saturdays and Sundays and no other days. It knows no holidays.
- Between two dates the first date is not counted and the last one is. The page also shows the count with both days in it.
- When an answer lands on a Saturday or a Sunday, the page shows the Friday before it and the Monday after it. It does not say which of the three applies to you.
Examples, worked by hand.
- 30 days after Saturday, October 10, 2026: October has 31 days, so 21 days reach October 31, and 9 more reach Monday, November 9, 2026. If October 10 itself is day 1, day 30 is Sunday, November 8, 2026.
- 14 days before Friday, November 20, 2026 is Friday, November 6, 2026.
- 10 weekdays after Friday, October 9, 2026: five in the next week and five in the week after reach Friday, October 23, 2026.
- 1 month after Sunday, January 31, 2027: February 2027 has 28 days, so it is Sunday, February 28, 2027.
- From Saturday, October 10, 2026 to Friday, December 25, 2026: 21 days left in October, 30 in November and 25 in December make 76 days. That is 10 weeks and 6 days. 55 of those days fall on Monday to Friday. With both the first and the last day counted, it is 77 days.
The examples are made up. A program checks them, and 400 made-up counts done a second way, every time the page is built.
Where counting days trips people up
- Day 1 can be the starting date or the day after it. The two ways give dates one day apart: Monday, November 9 or Sunday, November 8 in the example above.
- A month is not 30 days, and it is not 4 weeks. From October 10, 2026, one month is November 10, 30 days is November 9, and 4 weeks (28 days) is November 7.
- Months have different lengths. One month after January 31 cannot be February 31.
- A leap year adds a day. 2 days after February 28, 2028 is March 1, 2028, because that February has 29 days. 2 days after February 28, 2027 is March 2, 2027.
- Weekdays and days are different counts. 10 weekdays after Friday, October 9, 2026 is October 23. 10 days after it is Monday, October 19.
- The count may not start on the date printed on the paper. It can start on the day a paper was mailed, the day it arrived, or another day. The page counts from the date you give it.
What this page does not know
- It does not know how a court, an office, a landlord or a company counts its days: whether the first day counts, whether weekends and holidays count, and what happens when the last day lands on one.
- It does not know any holidays, in any country or state.
- It does not know which date a count starts from, or whether something has to be mailed, or has to arrive, by the last day.
- It does not know the time of day something closes, or time zones. Use today uses the date on this device.
- It never says when anything of yours is due. The paper itself, or the office that sent it, says how its days are counted. The phone number on the paper is the place to ask.
- It holds up to 20 counts on this device, and they do not move to another phone or computer by themselves.
If the date is about court, housing or benefits
- On this site: Free legal help lists ways to find a lawyer who does not charge, and Court without a lawyer is for going to court on your own.
- Calling 211 reaches a local helpline in most of the U.S. that knows what help is near you.

The tool and the wording around it were written with AI (Claude) for Scarlet Beast (our AI policy); the dates are yours. There is no AI inside this tool: it only counts days on the calendar. It has been checked by a program, not yet used by people with a real letter in hand. What it keeps is listed on My data on this device. Also in Spanish: Contar los días; both pages keep the same list on this device. Found a mistake? Email [email protected].
