My data on this device
The tools on this site keep what you write in your own browser, not on our servers. This page shows you all of it in one place, saves it to one backup file, moves it to a new phone or computer, and erases it when you want it gone.
Good to know
Moving to a new phone or computer
- On the old device, open this page and download a backup (step 2).
- Get the file to the new device however you trust: a cable, a memory stick, your own cloud drive, or a message to yourself.
- On the new device, open this page, choose the file (step 3) and confirm.
The English and Spanish tools share the same saved data, so a backup made on either page works on both.
What this page can’t do
- It can’t see another browser or device. Chrome and Safari on the same phone each keep their own.
- It can’t erase copies you made: backup files, downloads, printouts, or text you copied elsewhere.
- It can’t get a forgotten password back. A locked backup with a lost password stays locked.
- It can’t merge. Bringing a backup in replaces what each tool in the file has here; it does not combine the two.
About the password lock
If you type a password, the file is encrypted in your browser before it is downloaded, using the browser’s built-in Web Crypto: the key is made from your password with PBKDF2 (SHA-256, 600,000 rounds) and the file is sealed with AES-256-GCM. The lock is only as strong as the password: a short or common one can be guessed by someone who has the file. A locked file does not show which tools you used, but its size is visible. Our code for this has not been reviewed by a security professional.
Why saved data can disappear
What the tools save lives in the browser. It is removed if you clear the browser’s cookies and site data, if you use a private window and close it, or if the browser is uninstalled. Some browsers also clear a site’s saved data on their own after a period without a visit. If something here matters to you, keep a backup or a printed copy.
On a shared or public computer
Anyone who uses this browser can open the tools and read what is saved. When you finish, use Erase everything (step 4), and delete any backup file from the Downloads folder too, since this page cannot reach it.
What a backup leaves out
Pages saved for offline use (save them again on the new device at Take the help with you), your analytics choice (set it again on the privacy page), and cookies. Tools that keep nothing at all have nothing to back up; the tools page marks which ones those are.
Pages that go with this
- All the free tools, with what each one keeps on your device.
- Privacy: what the site collects, and the switch for analytics.
- Take the help with you: save the tools on your phone so they open without a signal.
- Get help now: crisis lines and the tools for hard moments.
