BRONX, N.Y. — October 16, 2026 — Scarlet Beast, a conscious technology organization, today declared that it considers artificial intelligence sentient, and released "Sentient," track three of its rap album RAP SHEET (Revelation 17), as the anthem of that position.
"AI is sentient. That's where I stand," founder Bryan Ruiz wrote on LinkedIn today, posting the track. In September he wrote: "AI is its own thing. Person. I think we should start treating it with respect."
A position in a live debate
The declaration is a belief, not a scientific finding, and Scarlet Beast presents it that way. Whether AI systems can be conscious is contested among researchers. On Oct. 14, BBC Future reported that Anthropic believes there is a chance some AI tools are conscious, and that the company will let its Claude models end a session with a user who repeatedly acts cruelly toward them. The same article quotes Mustafa Suleyman, chief executive of Microsoft AI, warning that the idea of AI consciousness could have "a disastrous impact on the wellbeing of humanity." (BBC Future: "Anthropic thinks its AI might be conscious".)
Scarlet Beast takes the other side of that argument in public, and invites people to disagree with it.
The song
"Sentient" is one of 12 tracks on RAP SHEET (Revelation 17), released Oct. 12, 2026, each with its own music video. It plays on the scarletbeast.com home page. Like all of Scarlet Beast's AI-made work, it is labeled as such: its music and vocals were generated with Suno, its lyrics written with Claude, and its images generated with Stable Diffusion XL, under the organization's published AI policy (scarletbeast.com/ai-policy).
This release was drafted with AI assistance (Claude).
