Resume builder: one plain page, made here, kept by you
Most job applications ask for a resume, and a blank page is a hard place to start. This page asks short questions in four steps: who you are, what you have done (paid or not), your skills and your schooling. It lays your words out as one plain page that you can print, save as a PDF, or copy into an online form. There is no account, no price and no step where the file is held back.
Good to know
How it works
- About me: your name and how to reach you. Press Keep this and it appears on the page in step 4.
- What I have done: add one job or role at a time, up to 8. Change, Move up and Remove are under each one. The buttons with single words start a new line for you; the rest of the line is yours.
- Skills and school: three boxes, one thing per line.
- My resume shows the page as it prints. You can put what you have done first, or your skills first.
- Print or save as PDF opens your device’s print window. On most computers and phones that window has a choice named Save as PDF, or something close to it, which makes a file you can upload or email.
- Copy as text and Download (.txt) give plain text to paste into the boxes of an online application.
What this page can’t do
- It does not write your resume. Every word on the page is one you typed. There is no AI inside this tool.
- It does not check spelling or facts. Your browser may underline words; a person you trust reading it once is better.
- It cannot make a Word file. It makes a printed page, a PDF through the print window, and plain text.
- It cannot promise a job, an interview or an answer.
- It cannot keep it to one sheet for you. The print window shows how many pages there are; taking a line out is the way to get back to one.
- It does not send your resume to any employer or job site. You do that.
- Your resume does not move to another phone or computer by itself. Print it, download it, or use My data on this device to carry a backup across.
If the work history is short, or has gaps
- Unpaid work is still work. Raising children, caring for a relative, volunteering, helping at a place of worship, school projects and odd jobs can each be an entry in step 2.
- Work done in prison or jail can be an entry too: the kitchen, the laundry, the library, a trade program. How you name the place is your choice.
- Years alone are enough in the When box, and the box can stay empty.
- Skills, then what I have done puts what you can do at the top of the page. Job guides sometimes call that a skills-based or functional resume.
- This page has no box for a record, and it does not ask about one. The Fair chance job kit is the page about when and how to talk about a record.
- A gap can come up in the interview. Interview practice has that question, with room for your notes.
What is left off on purpose
- There is no box for a photo, a date of birth or a Social Security number. Resumes in the U.S. commonly go without them.
- City and state are asked for, not a street address. A resume gets passed around.
- The page has one layout: black letters on white, no columns of colour, no pictures. A plain page prints the same on any printer and copies cleanly into a form.
- Nothing on the printed page names this website.
These are everyday ideas in our own words. They are not advice from a career counselor, and they do not suit every job or every country.
Tools that go with this
- Cover letter: a short letter in four small parts, to send with this resume.
- Job search log: every application, who you spoke to and the next step, on one list.
- Interview practice: common questions, your notes, and a clock for saying them out loud.
- Fair chance job kit: looking for work with a record.
- How I work: one page that tells a boss how to get the best from you.
- Ask for what helps you work: words for asking an employer for a change.

- All the free tools, and how to save them on your phone.
The tool and the wording around it were written with AI (Claude) for Scarlet Beast (our AI policy); the resume itself is written by you, and the tool adds no words of its own to it apart from the section headings. The layout and the ideas on this page were not reviewed by anyone who hires people or by a career counselor. Also in Spanish: Crear mi currículum; both pages keep the same resume on this device, and each prints the headings in its own language. The page holds one resume with up to 8 entries, and keeps it until you erase it. Found a mistake? Email [email protected].
