Good to know
Lonely isn’t the same as alone
You can live alone and feel fine, or be surrounded by people and feel unseen. Loneliness is about the connection you want and don’t have, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
It happens to everyone
Young and old, in a city or in the country, married or single. Big changes (moving, a new job, a breakup, a death, retirement, getting out of the hospital or prison) often bring it on.
Small and often beats big and rare
A short hello, a reply, a regular place you go. Connection is mostly built from small moments repeated over time, which is good news: small steps are ones you can take.
Other people are waiting too
Many people would welcome a message and are hoping someone else goes first. Reaching out is not needy. It’s often a gift.
