Después de un intento de suicidio

Para los días y los meses de después: para ti, si eres quien sobrevivió, y para la gente que te quiere. Esta página transmite, nombrando la fuente, lo que dicen el manual que SAMHSA escribió con personas que sobrevivieron a un intento, la American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) y el Instituto Nacional de la Salud Mental (NIMH): lo que quizá estés sintiendo, qué decir cuando la gente pregunta, cómo hacer un plan para mantenerte a salvo, cómo buscar terapia que puedas pagar, qué ayuda si no vas a terapia, y cómo pueden acompañar la familia y las amistades. Antes que nada

  • ¿Estás pensando en el suicidio ahora mismo? Llama al 988 y marca 2: es la Línea 988 de Prevención del Suicidio y Crisis, a cualquier hora, gratis y confidencial.
  • ¿Te hiciste daño, o estás por hacértelo? Llama al 911.
  • Sigues aquí. El manual de SAMHSA dice, en inglés: “Lo importante es que sigues aquí; tienes vida, y eso quiere decir que tienes tiempo para encontrar maneras más sanas y más eficaces de sobrellevar tu dolor”.
  • Lo que sientas está bien. El manual de SAMHSA dice, en inglés, que es normal sentir varias emociones opuestas después de un intento de suicidio.
  • Es tu historia, y tú decides si la cuentas. Esa línea es de ese manual. Cuánto compartes, y con quién, depende de ti.
  • ¿Alguien a quien quieres hizo un intento? AFSP dice, en inglés: aunque no sepas qué decir, quédate con la persona y escucha.

Lo que viene del manual de SAMHSA y de AFSP lo tradujimos nosotros. Ese manual tiene once años: trae el número de la Línea de entonces, y esta página da el 988, como lo hacen AFSP y el NIMH. No repetimos su lista de sitios web ni recomendamos las aplicaciones que nombra, porque no las revisamos. SAMHSA publicó en su momento dos folletos más cortos para los días después de una visita a la sala de emergencias; ese día no los encontramos en su biblioteca en línea, así que nada de aquí viene de ellos.
